Giving it a 5 star greasy spoon rating. Big place that runs like a well oiled machine. Portions fill the plate. Ham and cheese frittata is huge! Enough for two people. Anyone giving a lower rating doesn't like greasy spoons. You want the best breakfast for the money come here. You want fancy - go somewhere else.

Whenever we stop over at the melrose, it has always been a pleasant experience. The staff has always been very friendly and welcoming. It's such a great convenience to have a 24 hour open restaurant just down the road. It reminds me of a diner back home on Maui. If you're in for something light or something hearty the melrose will sure satisfy your hunger. I personally highly recommend giving them a try.

Pretty much what you would expect from a family restaurant. Good variety on the menu, friendly service and delicious food. I enjoyed the strawberry crepes and my husband had their pancakes and hash browns.

Pretty okay food and pretty fairly priced. Nothing spectacular about this place. It reminds me of a struggling restaurant before it appears on some restaurant makeover reality show. I don't think the kitchen has roaches or anything, but the place certainly feels like it's run by people that don't have a clue. At 2:30 pm on a Sunday, there were four managers working. Maybe these were the owners, but it seemed way overboard for a half full dining room. The staff is poorly trained and the owners don't seem to know any different. My salad arrived in 3 minutes after my order was placed. Not bad, except that my entree was delivered at the same time. Three minutes for home made lasagna? Suspicious. It was not terrible, just cold by the time I finished my salad. My server had to double as my bartender and had trouble with pouring a simple beer. The bartender was on break from 2pm to 4 pm. Again, the owners/managers didn't know any better. The desserts are trucked in by a bakery and not made on-site. Makes you wonder if they are just microwaving food back there if they outsource the desert menu. It's too bad the owners are holding this place back. These people work hard, they just need better leadership. Call Gordon Ramsey.

We had a large group of 11 people and decided to skip omega's for Melrose. I am so glad we tried it. Even at 10pm, they serve a full menu and the prices are family friendly. Large large portions. My husband had a pasta dish, creole spiced, and I had the chicken shishkabob. This came w soup or salad and desert. It was quite fulfilling. The service was fast and the restaurant was clean. If I lived closer I would go there more often!

Pretty good place! It has a large dining room and their breakfast is pretty good. There are a ton of tables and booths available so it's great for one or for a group.

Back at Melrose again today. We were in the area so I remembered I had liked it in the past so why not give it a try again. No complaints. Very happy with my experience again. I have only been there twice now, and it was so ironic because I had the same waiter and of course I ordered the same sandwich. It was so good the first time, why deviate. Caught the waiters name this time - Mike, very nice guy. Great waiter.

I would only go here for breakfast. The rest of the menu reads like the Banquet/Encore frozen food entrees at the grocery store. But breakfast usually doesn't get microwaved from a box. So it's worth a try. The breakfast menu has lots of variety. I ordered the polish sausage with my eggs once. At first glance, breakfast seems a bit pricey but when you get your order you find out why. There is so much food - no skimping here. Breakfast is served promptly and it is good. Now that the smoking ban is in effect, it's a nicer place because the barrier between the two sections wasn't working.

I finally visited this restaurant after work. I had only tried their lunch take out before. Someone picks it up for us since it's very close to work. They have big servings even for take out. There is plenty of leftovers. I remember ordering a fruit platter along with my panini before and you are given a big container of fresh fruits. I think I had half of a melon, bunch of strawberries, and more. In other restaurants, you will be lucky enough to get a small bowl of fresh fruits. Now that I have actually seen the place, it's a big dinner. A lot of seating area. Its nothing fancy. The staff is very nice and helpful. I ordered the broasted chicken tonight and they give you half a chicken with your choice of potatoes. The chicken was tasty! The meat was moist with crispy skin even after my long travel back home. Their mashed potatoes with gravy was very good too! My hubby said one of the best he has tasted. The meals come with soup or salad and dessert!! I am not a big fan of the chicken dumpling soup. It tasted bland to me. They have a variety of sweets from pies, cheesecake, and cakes all displayed in a big glass display case. The young man serving the desserts was very nice. He was pleasant even if I had tons of questions about the desserts. In my defense, there are no labels identifying the sweets. I have yet to taste the cake and cheesecake. I'm stuffed after eating half of my meal. They have simple and solid menu items. I will definitely visit again.

Came for breakfast one day and found this place to be a perfect diner experience. All the servers were wearing green bay packers shirts as it was the first game of the season. I ordered a feta and spinach omelet. It was good, but can you believe there was too much feta? Service was good, and so was the coffee, surprisingly. There are speakers outside of the raunt that blares elevator music, but no music played inside. Strange.

I've eaten here many times and always default to the same order: hot chocolate with whipped cream, bacon and cheddar cheese omelette with hash browns and wheat toast. I'm not sure I'll ever order anything other than breakfast food here. It's always decent. I only ever seem to come here late at night. It's always a good place to catch up with friends and family when I'm in town. Service was good. Our waitress had a great sense of humor and was attentive. She didn't think it was weird at all when one of my sisters ordered a margarita along with her scrambled eggs which was a decision that greatly amused me. My other sister ordered the club sandwich and thought it was good.

Certainly not in the same league as Blue's Egg, but c'mon, this is the south suburbs. I'd settle for clean, quick service, and food that doesn't come out smelling like wet puppies (true story about a different breakfast place I went to in Cudahy with my parents..). But that's not the Melrose! Melrose is clean, service is great, and their menu is huge! We stopped in for breakfast, and we're all pleased. I got pancakes with cherries (the dark kind) but passed on the whipped cream. (Noticed that so many of their pancake/french toast offerings seemed smothered in sweet, buyer beware). Pancakes were great, and my coffee never went half empty. My son got some kind of sweet pancakes on special, and those things were even more smothered in some kind of syrup than even the picture detailed. Just make sure you have a sweet tooth or get the topping on the side. As far as generic diners go, Melrose is alright!

I don't know what I expected. It's a pretty average large diner. Honestly, I've driven by this place 100 times and not known exactly what sort of place it was. Well, recently I found out. We met some friends and their parents here for dinner. My friend had talked this place up a fair bit on the way there, but another friend had been sure to temper my expectations. I walked in with mixed signals. The menu is diverse and huge (almost as big as their dining room, sheesh!), and the chicken parmesan I picked at was plenty tasty, if I bit on the salty side. With their dinners they offer a desert, wine, or beer. I chose the wine. On second thought, I'd recommend the desert. I'm not a sweets kind of person, but the wine was really nothing to write home about (and honestly, I didn't expect it to be, but since I was walking in recovering from a migraine, sweets were the last thing on my mind and I thought I could stomach some light wine). I'd come back if given the chance. It's the sort of place where I'd take a group if I had a picky eater--with all the options on the menu pretty much anyone could probably find something to eat.

I'm the King around here!!!! The food is consistent. On the other side of town from my house but they treat me like family. Try the soup it is delish!!!
(5)Sam M.
Serious Greek restaurant. All the plates are huge and everything is very very good. They are open 24/7 and have plenty of seating. I had the Gyros sand. and it had enough meat for two people.
(4)Shelby J.
The most disgusting salad ever! It's just iceberg lettuce. I asked for croutons and bacon bits and had to .50 cents for the croutons ad 2.99 for a piece of bacon? The glass of wine I swear was church wine. My chicken pasta dish was ok. The pasta was cooked the pesto was good but the chicken was dry as hell and fatty. If it weren't for my car being fixed next door I don't think I'll ever enter voluntarily..fast food might actually be better.
(1)Kyle A.
It's my favorite family restaurant on the planet! So, it's not 5 star food, per se, but it's super good for a family restaurant. I you buy a dinner it comes with a free piece of cake, and their cake selection is enormous. Their breakfast options are tops, the hashbrowns some of the best I've ever had. Dinner is the family variety, but I've never been disappointed. Broasted chicken, stuffed meatloaf (yes, try it), and chicken ceasar salad all stand out in my mind. Melrose is always packed, and it should be. It's a great bang for your buck!

Beyond disgusting. I'm so upset it's ridiculous.Im currently here with my family of 19. As Im cutting through my chicken I find a piece of hair!!! Are you kidding me?!?!??!.the manager said he will take it off of my bill but how embarrassing is that? Ill never ever come back here, and I don't recommend this place.

never a bad meal great portions breakfast anytime I would go there seven days a week three times a day for every meal that I eat if it was possible

First off this place is a well oiled machine on my visit. The place is big and looks clean. Overall the place was nice. I walked in and got seated right away. I took my coat off and my server was right there with my menu. Before I could look at menu she was there with my water and asked if I need a minute to look over the menu and I didn't Because I got the gyro and eggs as usual. When I see gyro and eggs on the menu 8 out of 10 times this will be ordered. The food came almost immediately and I noticed the plate was as large as the paper place mat. The meal was a decent size and I noticed there were three eggs when everyone else gives only two. The gyro meat was juicy and tasty with thick cuts which I like. The eggs were perfect and runny. The hash browns plentiful and had that perfect balance of lightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Thank you for having Texas toast and not the plain thin white toast. Over all this is my new favorite gyro and eggs place and just toppled the previous one. The service was outstanding and I was in and out like a fast food place. The menu is big and you can view it on there web site. This place really has there sh#it together and is just a top notch breakfast place. Two thumbs up.

This is place is clean, huge menu, good food and good servers and it's open 24X7X365. I don't need anything else. I have been to this place for Dinner and Breakfast. So far my experience at this place is really good. Garden Panini Sandwich and Garbage Omelette are my favs. Pancakes are also good. They only thing i didn't enjoy was something called Gyro Skillet.
(5)Sheila A.
Went there last night with some friends and all I can say is - awesome! I had the gyros with Greek salad and my friend had this amazing pesto pasta dish that I sampled. There are so many choices on the menu - the only difficult part was choosing what deliciousness to partake in. Also had the Chardonnay which was fabulous. Definitely coming back soon...maybe even tonight!
(5)Frank S.
My wife and I have eaten here about 5 times now. There must be something to it if we keep going back, right? It's become our default restaurant. The menu has something for everyone and the food is pretty darned good, as is the service. If you can't decide, well then you're just not hungry enough. We usually have a nice meal and get out of there for about $35, with tip. We will return!
(5)Dan S.
The ribs were pretty good. Sweet n smokey and extremely tender. Fries were hot and crispy. I also got a Waffle and it was perfectly golden and crispy. My girlfriend got the lasagna and it was pretty good. Red peppers was a bit different but good none the less. Orange juice was ridiculously fresh, like I stuck a straw in n orange. Boston creme pie was a little lack luster but I would definitely go again, especially since they're 24 hours
(4)Jessica S.
Gross. The waitstaff is clearly at the end of their lines to take a job here. The. Food comes out faster than a jimmy john's commercial, which is very worrisome to me. Everyone is running on ultra-high speed, and I always feel rushed. Food is yucky frozen fried fare. Ew.
(1)Craig V.
It was good. Went for breakfast and got the Melrose skillet. The skillet was fresh, good, and tasty. Service was prompt and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again.
(4)Kyle K.
My dad freaking loves this place. I've tried and tried to get him to jaunt over to my side of town and hit up Honey Pie but it is no use. We end up at Melrose. This place screams mediocre. I've never eaten anything extraordinary, but nothing offensive either. For folks who like a lot of options, this is your spot. The menu is absolutely huge. The service is generally fine, even when very busy. My dad and I were blessed with the ability to talk to anyone/anything in sight, so when we sit and drink coffee for a while after breakfast we don't like to feel rushed. Never the case here. If you like country fried steak with sysco sausage gravy and little tubs of creamer artfully crammed into a little bowl, then you might just be in love.

Last week after a funeral, we took almost 40 people to Melrose for a late lunch. Everyone ordered off the menu. We were worried we would be there forever, but no, they were incredibly fast and efficient. In addition, everyone's food was fantastic. We had a couple of children along, and they were delighted to be able to order pancakes.. The food was plentiful and many took leftovers home. One person ordered a Bloody Mary, and when the rest of us saw it, we added that to our order too. Even with everyone ordering what they wanted along with most people ordering cocktails, the total bill was only a little over $600. We were impressed and very happy we chose this place--AND it was clean!
(5)Frank A.
Dissapointing for sure. We went for Sunday lunch. My wife had a sub-par BLT and I had a SMALL dry broasted chicken. And for this they charge a premium compared to other mid-tier restaurants in the citiy? I could get the $11.95 chicken dinner for $3.00 less easiliy and beat the portion and quality in doing so. My wife said ditto for the BLT.

I didn't pick the restaurant. Why would I mention that? Well you see I am already not a big fan of Greek style family restaurants. From my experience there is usually nothing that stands out. Everything that you will experience at best will be average in terms of food. Service itself will fluctuate depending on the particular individual serving you. Am I biased against this? Will this be an unfair review? I hope not. I still have high hopes and will give anything a chance. Let's talk positives. Melrose is located on 27th in Oak Creek, It's sitting in a good location and is easy to find. There is plenty of parking in the lot so that will not be an issue. Now on to the rest of the "not so positives". The restaurant itself is a cookie cutter to other Greek family restaurants around the area. Walk though the doors and be greeted by a glass display case containing desserts. A lot of these places feel the same. There was no clear hostess as that station seemed to be abandoned. The girls behind the dessert fortress acknowledged us but weren't exactly friendly. There wasn't attitude but it was an emotionless going through the motions. We had a large group. The menus were piled in the center of the table so since we were early I passed some of them out until I realized I wasn't getting paid for this. Other than that this is what you would expect. A large menu with a variety of things to choose from. They don't specialize in anything so nothing is exceptional. If in doubt typically go for the breakfast. Yes even for dinner! My Eggs Benedict was sitting for a while as I could see the hollandaise start to set. That said the poached egg was perfectly cooked. I believe I never received my toast. All in all 10 items were tried. Burgers, Breakfast, featured entrees. It is worth noting that at no time did anyone express how great the food was. The only real comment expressed was "That's a lot of food". Most people had to take home leftovers. It's a case of quantity over quality A lot of us know what to expect at these joints. If you were wondering how it stacks up maybe this gives you a better idea. If you are me, you would have rather spent your money elsewhere eating something of real quality. If you are making the choice go elsewhere. If you are being dragged into something you have no control over then remember breakfast is kind of hard to screw up. Then go somewhere cool the next day to make up for it. You'll feel better!

Went for a late dinner with the hubby and was pleasantly surprised! I haven't been here in years but will definitely be back! I had the Triple Decker Sandwich (turkey breast & bacon) with fries and chicken dumpling soup. The soup was good but the sandwich was Outstanding!! My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon and fries which he said was good but what was amazing was the Cream of Taco Soup! The waitress was so nice and attentive and we couldn't have asked for better service from her!! I wouldn't mind going back and trying the breakfast food or the dinners since the specials didn't look too bad price-wise and the dessert case was calling my name when I came in!! They have a huge case of cakes and pies that look ridiculously yummy! Too bad I was so full I couldn't partake! (Which just means they had great portion sizes! That and the fact that I took home half my sandwich and fries!)
(4)Richard S.
Stopped here after work Tuesday. It's your typical Milwaukee Diner with a little bit of everything and tons of daily specials. I had the $9.99 Roast Beef Special. It came with Carrots, Broccoli, Mashed Potatoes and Dessert. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the beef was tender and flavorful with a nice gravy that had just a touch of ginger to it. The Pecan Pie I took home for late night snack definitely hit the spot. The only reason I didn't rate Melrose higher is a very oddly designed Men's Room. When I first entered, I noticed that the mirrors were too high for a wheelchair user. The main problem is in the wheelchair stall itself. The commode is in the middle of huge stall with one set of bars about 4 feet away on the far wall and the other bar behind the commode itself. This setup made it very hard to transfer. Its a good thing I have good upper body strength, otherwise I might still be stuck in that stall!

Fast service. Awesome food. Will come back again! I highly recommend!!!
(5)Mike B.
Melrose is the best family restaurant on the South side. The food is consistently good, the tables and atmosphere are always clean, and the staff are welcoming. Breakfast is great everyday with a variety that is impressive.
(4)Jeremia F.
Okay Coffee, good breakfast specials, with good prices. I can't imagine someone not having an okay meal. The service I experienced was incredibly fast and friendly. I will definitely swing by here for a breakfast in the future.
(3)Marshall S.
Went for Sunday lunch. They were very busy but able to accommodate a large group after a short wait. Our table ordered mostly sandwiches, and we waited 45 minutes for our food. The food itself was traditional American, very similar to a Perkins. Extensive menu, but nothing unique or fancy. I had soup and a sandwich, which were average quality. Desserts looked good, but since the wait was so long we didn't have time for any. Probably won't go back, but would try the breakfast if I did.
(2)Mark H.
Since I've been traveling I've been trying a lot of different restaurants Melrose is just a basic restaurant nothing special has a pretty good menu here the burgers are great I will try one later when I go there this next weekend the service over-the-top the waitstaff is just super they're very courteous kind and you can't beat $11.99 for country fried steak, mashed potatoes, soup, dessert and a beverage can't beat it.
(3)Dani K.
This place is absolutely nothing special. Typical restaurant with typical food with typical service with the sliiightest bit steeper prices. The breakfast I had was fine, the lunch less impressive. If you have the option to try something different and want something new, go somewhere else. This isn't worth the time. The only reason I come here is because it's predictable and my friend works next to it.
(2)Eliz N.
Went as a kind of last resort, late at night after a movie. Honestly, wish we would have gone through the McDonald's drive through instead. My sandwich was bland, bland, bland. I ate half of it and set the rest aside. At least the waitress was nice...?
(2)Terry B.
I'm pretty sure this is my parents favorite restuarant based on the number of times (at least once a weekend) we go here on my visits to Milwaukee. It's a large place, and even though this seems to be the place to go on a Sunday after church, we still seem to get seated fairly quickly. The food, ranging from typical Greek diners is merely average. They do have a wide variety of menu items from breakfast (served all day I believe) to Greek to typical diner foods. The gyros I've had were ok. Soups and salads are ok. Pasta dishes are ok. Service here is ok. I considered adding a 4th star here to represent the amount of food you get for your money. Most entrees are $10 or so, but you get a soup or salad, a plate the size of Texas full of food, and a desert item to boot.
(3)Raf G.
One word. Breakfast! Don't go here and order anything else because it may be average at best. Atmosphere: typical family type restaurant. Very clean. They have a dessert display in the front entrance. Service: They will sit you quick and will accommodate you. As soon as you sit down someone will come and offer you coffee and water. The servers here are always friendly and check on you often. They will bring your food out as soon as its ready. Very fast. Food: I've eaten here many times and everything in the breakfast menu is good. I lean toward the skillets since the portions are large. The menu says 2 eggs but every meal will come with 3. A few things that are good are the gyros and the Alfredo. I would not order burgers since I'm sure they are frozen. Fries are not fresh. All dinners are either hit or miss. The soups all taste like they come from a can. Ok so I ate here a couple weeks ago and my banquet skillet was soggy. I told the waitress and they offered to bring me another item but I lost my appetite. The manager was nice enough to take it off the bill even though I didn't ask. This place beats Denny's and Perkins for breakfast any day. The owners are always by the registers and will take care of any problems you may have. They really want people to have a good experience which is something the corporate chains don't care about. Come here for a great breakfast!
(4)James C.
Food: 3/5 Price: 4/5 Service: 4/5 'Beer, wine, or dessert?' How awesome of a question to be asked with every entree. Tried the fish dinner and it was not bad at all. Also was able to sample some of the other entrees such as the burger and steak. All in all, this was a nice little casual restaurant to have dinner with family or friends.
(4)Gerald W.
Decent Food, Good Service, 1 Free Soda Refill WTH!!!!!!!! You know something is wrong when a restaurant only offers you one free refill on fountain soda, and maybe you should not come here if you like soda, but overall, if you are starving and in the area, and really need to eat, this place will do just fine. Nothing is great, but then again nothing is bad. Front of the house is a little screwed up as you walk in and the pie area is half empty and understaffed, but once they see you to your table your just average dining experience will go off without a hitch. The menu is diverse, and the Gyro plate was fine. The sandwiches were good, and the fries were cooked properly. The one thing that actually was done nice was the greek salad. BUT be careful they leave the pits in the olives, so I am sure they are going to get sued someday when a tooth gets chipped. You will be fine eating here, nothing is Awesome, but everything is average and the price is fine. Service was prompt and good. If I was hungry and in the area, I would go back, but if you can find anything better, go there, this is not a place to remember.
(3)Anthony K.
Love this place! Great service, great food and a huge variety. I also love that it is open 24 hours a day! Definitely try the banquet skillet or the melrose skillet, both are wonderful.
(5)David G.
Typical "family restaurant" with huge menu. Very popular with Seniors. I was there a week ago and ordered an omelet and it was ready in about 3 minutes. Unbelievable. Wait staff very attentive and friendly. Clean and pleasant inside with lots of windows.
(3)Joe G.
A decent family type sort-of-Greekish restaurant with a good breakfast selection. They offer fresh-squeezed orange juice from a machine that you can see up front, look for it as you walk in. The restaurant is usually pretty busy. I've gotten the impression several times that it's a little on the expensive side, but I can't quite convince myself that's true. Maybe it's because you get a little more here than at some other restaurants. Last time we went, we had ordered a fruit bowl, it wasn't large, and it was a bit pricey, but it offered a nice selection of fruit and came helpfully stabbed with a steak knife .. an interesting little bit of flair.
